I actually spent most of this week practicing mixing & mastering techniques, and that resulted in me using last weeks beat (with a few melody additions/changes). The result of that work as of today is this https://soundcloud.com/ahhsumx/brasil-remastered so please let me know what you think if you check it out and compare it to last week.

As for what I posted here... I felt like sharing the (mostly) same beat two weeks in a row wasn't the point of weeklybeats, so I busted out imaschine today and came up with something. Then I exported the individual tracks (it allows up to 4) and tried out some of my same mixing & mastering tricks I learned. Though ultimately I didn't get that much time today to work on it so it was a fun, but rushed beat. Hope you enjoy it at least a little! Thanks for listening and have a good week.

I'm digging it.

As for Brasil and its variant, boosting the bass was definitely a good idea any time, as is reverb, which probably could've been put on more than just the trumpet.

thanks for checking out both beats! the feedback is appreciated. i will go back and play with some more reverbs this weekend and see how it sounds. i don't really like the ones that logic provides (they always feel like too much, or none at all to me)). also, it feels like the sort of plugin that should be on an aux/buss to avoid clashing, but i don't use those too often yet. any reverb tips would be great!

It's like salt. Use it plenty for flavor, but not too much. It's okay to put reverb on the whole project rather than trying to side-chain it, as some people prefer to add salt on their meal rather than use it for cooking. Keep the decays not too short and tweak the wet/dry for balance instead.

that's a great metaphor smile, thanks for the advice!
