Q-Rosh in the kitchen

By ahhsumx on October 22, 2016 4:27 pm

Last week I went down a rabbit hole of fellow weekly beats artist Q-Rosh's beats and if you don't know, they have amazing atmosphere's and guitars. After listening to enough of them it was obvious to me that I had to abandon the beat I was going to post this week and team up with Q-Rosh (without him knowing) to write a beat. I ended up taking chops from a few of his tracks to make this and I think it's mostly "Active Gift" and "Lazy Sperm" but another one or two might have snuck in.. I forget sorry.

About the beat:
- I listened to a bunch of q-rosh tracks (you should too)
- I recorded a few noteable samples to my MPC1000
- I chopped
- I played with the guitars until something was decent
- wrote sequences, wrote a song pattern, got obsessed by the lull of the shaker as the night got late
- at this point i was like "this really needs a ticking clock" so i went downstairs in my apartment and recorded one, added it to the mpc
- sample was too clean at this point, so i added vinyl static from another beat i worked on
- rendered in to logic and added some eq/compression. i'm bad at this part but improving haha

good god! Had a quick look over the artists this week and could not believe my eyes. Me in the kitchen! Unfortunately I was in bed and only had my phone for the first impression of your song. What a cool beat and I noticed the vinyl flav before I checked out your text. Man, this is a great honor being a sample in your MPC. Tomorrow I will listen properly on my monitors. Thank you for  the kind words about my music.

haha, when I put this up on soundcloud I called it "Active Lazy" (a combo of your song names i chopped) which I wish I would have thought of sooner, but that's life. glad you liked the beat, I hope it holds up in your monitors! I am yet to buy a proper pair... it was a blast to make though and it's gotten my best reviews from my friends and fam.

Yeah!!! Great chopping. Minimalism rules!!! Fat bass frequences from my monitors too. Well done.
By the way, I once was chopped before: WB 2014, my track painful truth by minaret_kid. here is the link: http://weeklybeats.com/#/minaret_kid/music/petrichor
