Golden Horn

This week I went back to the MPC and the vinyl collection. I actually only ended up using only one sample for this beat, though i chopped it in to 12 different pieces. You can listen to the original sample as I took it from the record here - https://www.dropbox.com/s/2fqmh05l4kmt2yi/happy-horn-loop-sample.wav?dl=0 .
Chopping it up wasn't so challenging as it naturally as some obvious spots, but doing some thing with those pieces took a bit of work (lots of filtering). The first loop I came up with was way too busy and crowded, but that horn sounded great to me. So I slept on it, and when I came back I had a little more clarity on how to get a groove out of the samples. Ended using the horns sparingly compared to the first version, but they are still the star of the beat. Drums are meant to be 90's golden era style.
Lastly, I bounced it as one track in to logic and did some mastering- eq, compressor, limiter, and a small bit of sub-enhancement. In the past I've taken things off the MPC track by track, and then done a mixing->mastering process, but it's very time consuming and time is not permitting this week. I'd like to get things sounding better in the MPC in general, so that less of this is "needed".
Hope you all enjoy this, it's one of my favorites so far; and as always, on to the next one.
