Here We Are Again

By Abludo on January 9, 2022 5:08 pm

Hi again everyone! It's good to be back. Or at least, I hope so. I don't feel quite so creative at the moment, or perhaps I am just holding my music to higher standards...

When I look back on 2018 and 2020 WBs, I remember how much joy it gave me to be creating these songs, and loving them so much. Now, as life comes with ever more responsibilities, so the pressure builds on my songs being worth my time, and worth prioritising over other things like getting a good job, spending time with my family or my fiancée.

This pressure is making it very difficult to be free in my music and to feel satisfied with my life right now. Nevertheless, I've really given it a go for week 1, and tried to show what direction my music taste and style have gone this past year. I have gotten swept into the psychedelic indie pop side of things! Tame Impala's 2020 album The Slow Rush really leaked into this one ngl.

A few notable things:

- The fact that I recorded the underlaying drums - I'm pretty happy with how tight and clean they sound - and I recently got some tape plugins to saturate my hi-hats nicely.

- The cowbells are actually sampled from some actual cows I came across when visiting the Swiss Alps last year, and I love them! (I also included my vacuum cleaner turning off in the percussion, not that you can really hear it)

- I bought a couple of new guitars in 2021 which feature in this song, including a Hofner Violin bass which has really improved my bass sound! Love it.

- Finally the lyrics are more abstract than my usual ones, written around the topic I've described:

Here we are again
Turn it up full send
Don't know what to do
Or the words to choose
Gonna just pretend
That I'm not like them
Gotta make it new
But it's getting harder to.

great vibes! love the lyrics too. def feeling the same way when i look at the weeklybeats 2022 as a whole, but it'll be exciting to see where we all go this year. cheers from a spaceman!

That Hofner bass sound is fantastic here--that's a great recording bass! I'm digging this varied arrangement and how upbeat this whole piece is. Well done! Great to hear you here!

What a difference organic, farm-fresh cowbell can make. big_smile Groovy start to what'll hopefully be a groovy year for everybody. Happy 2022!

Nice and chill dude! Love the subtle phasing.

tight playing and production here

These drums sound great, love that you recorded those cow bells, hope to hear more like this

Oooh definitely feeling the tame impala_inspired vibes.  Digging that grooving bassline and percussion.  The bass/keyboard breakdown was my fav part.  Nice work!  Here's to an inspired/productive year! smile

Let's go, one more time

I'm sure it'll be easier when you get back into the swing of things

Very nice.  I'm in the same boat motivation wise, so you're definitely not a lone.  Hope you find it and keep putting out solid tracks

YO THIS HITS SO HARD

this is funny because i listened to the song halfway before tabbing over to the description, and the music sounds so upbeat and joyful, in spite of your feelings of maybe overwhelment or burnout?

here's a thought: maybe the music itself will bring you to the point of joy.  I can hear the joy in the track and maybe that's the universe trying to tell you something.

welcome back.

Thanks for all the comments!
