An Unconscious Hodgepodge of Local Avian Repertoires

I've still been writing and recording a decent amount, but unfortunately I haven't really gotten around to actually uploading things for a while because of school sad.

Recently I've been spending a lot of time outside listening to birds, and it's really been getting me into writing more music influenced by their calls. I did something similar a while back and I don't know why I stopped!

Anyway I've been pretty sick lately so finding motivation has been difficult, but today I decided to throw something together. I was originally just going with making a bunch of random pitch bends and stuff, not really going for any theme in particular other than "I'm sick and I don't care if I make something good."

However once I started designing the instruments for the song I realized a lot of similarities to the types of bird calls I've been hearing a lot recently! I was completely unaware of what I was doing until this point, but once I heard the similarities I ended up being a lot happier about the piece.

Because this happened so naturally, I don't know if I will be able to recreate something like this consciously since it may risk sounding less genuine, but regardless I want to continue with this idea. It's a lot of fun!

Oh yeah and this was written in 9/8.

Nice abstraction -- caught the aggression I hear in most bird songs. 9/8, eh? And they call them bird-brains.
