So M8 was the sequencer but the sounds are coming from modular synth sources?
Original feel, creepy synth energy

hold on tight, late night subway ride, seeing the world pass by at 160 bpm with this as the soundtrack. Love this.
So M8 was the sequencer but the sounds are coming from modular …?
Bang on. Still a lot of sample based stuff. In fact I wrote it out for a discord group;
having a tinker in my lunchbreak with a patch I've been putting together the past few nights. Not sure it's done yet, but will likely make it to being recorded into the M8 soon. Hell might even toss some outrageous vocal chops or time-stretched "badmans" in there or something later on.
some notes for those interested:
- my goal with this was to do everything but sequencing in the rack (M8 is only sending midi data, and having stereo audio come back to be master limited, and playing the role of computer's soundcard). So no M8 synths, kicks, samples, breaks, as I usually would do.
- the breaks and drum loops are all from an om unit sample pack, being played via the SSP sampler, being mixed in the SSP performance mixer, spat out into some mid/side stuff (panning some of the high-freq heavy stuff in the SSP helps get the shimmer just on those things...) and through the Prism, which is being lightly messed with for some stank. not super noticeable in this vid, but A/B-ing it without this makes it sound much less rich.
- two differently pitched drones being churned out by the sample drum and through a bunch of FX to give some body and soul. Qpas and Mimeophon - hilarious how long that chain is for such a minor element, really.
- erica bassline for that acid (an actually synthesized sound!) that is having notes within a scale randomly selected (past the first note of the phrase) with some M8 commands. Not sure I've honed the randomness of it to the right amount, as yet (and can never tell if I am going crazy or pitch tracking on the bassline is actually as lackluster as it feels)... we strive, live, laugh and learn!
- atmospheric melodic sample and weird vocal via squid sample as a last minute touch for variety (and I had two spots left in the mmidi breakout)
- 0-Coast doing some light touch melodic work, stereo on that is split with one channel going through a rings to keep it a lil spicy... then into morph for some wildness
- Plaits is being a cymbal that you hear sometimes at the start of a phrase
