Dust

Last week's song was about fire and how it forms a symbiosis with trees, and in a startling synchronicity, wildfires covered most of my home province this week and left much of North America in smoke, including my city.

The plan was always to continue the theme from last week, but I didn't expect to be living inside subject matter while I was writing it.

The original plan was to have a somewhat barren first part of this song, but to have an optimistic second half emerge.
Like pioneer trees wandering in on the wind and leftover seeds sprouting after a wildfire.

Unfortunately, reality can be much more bleak. Although our forests are built to withstand wildfires every 50-100 years, out of control deadwood and underbrush can lead to the fire burning so intensely that it damages or even strips the soil, and it can take a much longer time before forests can reassert themselves. This thought unavoidably occupied my mind while I was writing this.

Hopefully my next song will be much more optimistic. Not sure where else I could even take it. Even after a long period of dust, life has to return. I just don't know how to express that right now.

This was made with M8 and Supermassive.

Nice job conveying this sense of dread and unease.
The reverb sounds so much like screaming things/people, damn "good".
We do live in troubled times, hope humanity will get a grip or face extinction (then life will, uh, find a way).
