Dash Four

Since I have a tendency to pile on too much stuff, for this week I had the idea to keep things simple and basically just have a arpeggiator-like sequence make up the bulk of the arrangement...but of course I ended up layering on tons of stuff near the end anyway big_smile. Also tried to force myself away from my usual habits by having the chord progression be 14 bars rather than the typical multiplier of 4 and using 6/8 time.

love it so much!!! The progressing layering is phenomenal, everytime i thought it can't go further, it DOES! Like flying higher and higher. Drums have a nice punch and the rooms you are opening are just gigantic. Despite its more simple attempt it's a really strong track. Are the sequences directly done with the volca?

Really dig the build.  Love the layers.

Today I got stuck to your fantastic music. Listen to it up and down. Thank you very much for sharing it. The atmospheres and mixes are always pleasant and heart-warming. Looking forward to the next 23 weeks to come....

This track really gets bigger and bigger, starting subtle and simple. Like Perplex On said: is that all layered from just one Volca

Nice work enviroment, by the way smile

Thanks Perplex smile The Volca was played via MIDI using Ableton's External Instrument plugin and is more or less unprocessed at first (although it does go through an eq, a compressor, and NI's excellent Transient Master). As the song progresses a heavily processed version of the recording is faded in which is that mess you hear floating around the stereo image smile

The drums come from the Monotribe and _should_ have a nice punch because they are using your amazing drum bus rack!! big_smile
I'm still figuring out how it works but it does add an awesome crispyness/punch so thanks so much for that! You mentioned sidechaining other parts a little to the drums, do you mean the whole drum track? I had never thought of that (only ever done the obvious sidechained BD), curious to try it out.

Wow, thanks I've never heard anyone refer to my music as heart-warming, that's quite touching actually, thank you! smile

Hehe, thanks, it's basically just my work desk with some music stuff on it, since I also do a lot of (day job) work there it's sometimes hard to get inspired when switching to "music mode", super jealous of the people who have a dedicated studio! This weeklybeats thing is helping in forcing you to create music under _any_ conditions though lol. Actualy going to have someone living in my office/music room the coming month so another challenge there big_smile

Re the Volca like I mentioned to Perplex On it starts out with the plain Volca Bass sequence and then a filtered version of that is mixed in, I love those little Korgs!

Sorry for the late reply. Regarding the drumrack, you're very welcome! Glad you can use it! What i've ment with sidechaining other tracks: You're absolutely right, sidechaining the BD is what i thought of. Sometimes when i've recorded all drums into 1 clip (e.g. when i'm too lazy to record it separated or if i grouped several drumtracks together) i'm using the sidechaing EQ, making everything under 120Hz or so as the source for it. That's why i've ment with the "whole" drum track.
