Fat Dog Disco

Gear: Teenage Engineering OP-1.
Ideas going in: I wanted to make a song that had a driving lead throughout, as most of my songs always seem to be wanting for a vocal line or lead line and never really get it. I doubled my lead with the same synth an octave up, but left in a lot of the messups or gross parts, because I wanted the lead to feel organic, like a voice.
Reflection afterwards: I am not sure I like the effect the compressor had on this mix. It was better with the boost and compressor on than off, but not quite up to the idea of a perfect mix in my head. Of course, mixing on the OP-1 is always a challenge, so I'm not too worried about it. Also, I clearly still need to work on connecting the different leads/parts of the song together, as, at least to my ear, it's very very obvious that we've just switched between two different parts written on different days. The "Verse" is very dark, and the middle/rhythm section is less pronounced, where the "Chorus" is peppy as balls.

I would love feedback on this! Please comment with parts you liked, things you felt could use improvement, or how much it sucked so long as you tell me *why* it sucked smile

I don't own an OP-1 but pretty much every track I hear using it has a sweet sound and I like the whole arrangement for this song.  I definitely hear the vocal line and can almost imagine Jenny Lewis of Rilo Kiley singing over this smile  Nice melody! Well done!

Nice, great groove, great mixing

It's quite difficult to balance those noise chiptuny basses in a mix, so in my book everything sounds really fine. I have some ideas for the low end part of the mix, but I surely could not achieve them on a OP1. Great melodies, by the way!

Excellent job, by far. Hope you keep sending tracks like this smile
