Messing My Time

By Robroy on April 3, 2016 5:25 pm

A bit of a departure this week. I've been working on a  live band project for a little while, which draws upon Northern Soul, Blues, etc. So I've been working more on live instruments and building some tracks that don't really on an 808, so my output is going to be a bit more varied going forward. Thoughts and comments all appreciated.

Kicks ass. Great recording too. Listenting to it loud in my studio monitors... so clean.  Great stereo mix.

Very nice arrangement here, and particularly great in-the-pocket drums, bass, and rhythm guitar. I could hear this sitting alongside early Steely Dan or something. (That may be a polarizing comment.  But just listen.)

One thing to watch out for: starting at about the 2/3 mark, in the left channel there's some harsh clipping.  My sense is that might be a mixdown thing, since the individual parts don't seem to be clipping.

Overall very nice stuff--looking forward to hearing more.

Nice arrangement and playing. After about the halfway mark I started wanting a bit more variety, but I got that with the bridge moving into solo. Very solid. Are you playing each of these parts individually?

It was a band I'm doing some live stuff with, Northern Soul/Soul Funk, this is one of the tracks we're working on. I'm basically writing and producing it

Yeah, very fair, it's a rough take so we hadn't done a proper mix, but there's a bunch of things we'd need to tighten up on the later mixes. We're thinking about doing an album together so this is the early work
