Dim and Distant

By roboctopus on January 31, 2016 11:25 pm

I was working on another track for most of the week, but it got too cool so now it's going to be on my next album and is secret for now XD.

So I did this thing and I could have done better. One take everything.

I like the *idea* of it but it definitely needs better execution.

One Gameboy, Juno-60 synth, acoustic and electric guitars, and a sample.

Oh, and according to the subtitles of the anime I was watching, the Japanese translates to "Something dim and distant fades away into the hazy mist beyond," so that was my inspiration.

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhh so good. I'm feeling the epic already.

Love it, has a really dreamy quality!

Jealous of your one take skills, this sounds awesome

The intro makes me feel like I just had the best summer of anyone's life. I don't usually like electric guitars but I stuck through to the end because I like the rest so much.

Thanks! I sort of know what you mean. 5 years ago most of my home recordings were folk/bluegrass kind of stuff. Banjo, mandolin, acoustic guitar and bass. Then my daughter was born and suddenly an infant was sleeping in the room next to my home office/studio, so I turned to music I could make mostly with headphones haha.

Really cool! Uplifting!

I bet you made a new genre now

Oh man, this is beautiful!

Really beautiful and epic stuff. Great guitar solo, even more considering this is only one take. Impressive

This is very interesting work. I think the electric guitar tone really drew me in the most. Great buildup. I think that everything was a tad too loud for this style of track though, maybe some better separation of the pads from the guitar would help. Still - very nice playing and sounds there. Really enjoyed it.

Re: one take skillz. The track fades out when it does because I played the wrong chord on the synth and the guitar solo goes in the toilet shortly after XD

Thanks for the feedback. This was my first attempt at a reverb-heavy "wall of sound" type track, and I think you're right. Pads are too loud in the second half and the guitars probably could do with some harder panning or something. I'd like to revisit this track. The Gameboy parts could do with more variation too.

Thanks for listening!
