Lost in the Woods

By RawTicks on April 5, 2014 5:02 pm

It started on Monday as something that I thought I'd put in the trash bin on Tuesday, but recent experience taught me that I should try to keep my stuff and see if I can go with the flow. So I went up against my initial feeling and continued the track Tuesday. It turned out as kind of hip hop track with mostly orchestral instrumentation for the melody and electronic beats. I used notes in a major chord (D major) but somehow managed to find melancholy in it. It must be part of my DNA... Hope you like it. And congrats to everyone who made it through the first quarter!

Thanks for your comment! Unfortunately, I don't have access to a real orchestra... I composed every note in Ableton and used the Orchestral sound bank for the sounds. With its multisample (multiple samples (velocity) per note per instruments) it can be expressive enough to sound somewhat close to the real deal. I'd love to record real instruments for one weekly beat someday though...

This is some proper funky shit right here. Loved it! big_smile

Very glad you decided to continue. Faved.

very groovy. i need to try your approach of not junking a file and pushing on with it instead. especially if they turn out like this.

As the back story indicates this is a good testament to the value of perseverance as it would have been a shame to scrap this.  The orchestra sounds really good for being synthetic, especially the one that sounds kind of like a bassoon.  I do sense the tinge of melancholy, but at the same time it manages to sound upbeat to me as well.  Nice job.

Hey this is pretty awesome .. nice to hear some more orchestral instruments in the mix.

I'm glad you stuck with it! This was a lot of fun!

funny. funky alice breakdancing through the woods in wonderland ... especially like the triangles as well as the woodblock-thingies ... nice!

this is so, so nice. I love the vibe of this. excellent!

That xylophone is awesome

Very nice track, the unusual instrumentation works really well!

Awesome beat and the xylophone line is super catchy.  Kinda reminded me a bit of Xploding Plastix in the way the xylo played off the Brass.  Really cool track smile

Dude, when the drums kick in, just bliss

Great job, this is what I love about hip hop, any sound can work, when the track starts you have no idea a hip hop beat is going to drop

Thanks a lot everyone for the comments, I appreciate it! And it's always a pleasure listening to your stuff!

This is great! Sort of has this Elfman dark fantasy feel to it. If that makes sense. Either way, really enjoyed it. Great work on the orchestral sounds!

Clever use of orchestral tones with the electro beats.  Fun track.

Wow. Fantastic job. Sounds like hard work but a lot of fun!
