Surf it

By PhillipeGrishin on August 13, 2014 12:00 am

Having a tricky time with life at the moment but somehow the music still manages to occur every week despite me working 12 hour days, weekends and all that jazz...

Anyway... forget being the victim... just gotta surf that wave...

I am having a tricky time balancing the bass and the kick drum in the mix so that everything is in it's right place. If anyone has any suggestions to solve this dilemma I would GREATLY appreciate your feedback and suggestions.. I have tried side chaining the bass against the kick but get a whomp effect and loose the bass at the forefront of my mix. I have also tried side chaining just the bass frequencies against the kick drum so I get the mid and top oomph of the gnarly bass but then all the low frequencies are missing....

this is really causing quite a conundrum up in my brain box...

anyway - at this stage of the weekly beats game I would like to say that if you are still here - I salute you!!!

I hear a raise in the standards all across the board and the number of producers have been refined to those that are really dedicated... It's putting me through my paces this... but I am hearing some results and am becoming happier and happier with the type of stuff I'm writing...

So thanks again weekly beats!

and thanks again to anyone who listens, and offers your compliments and criticisms...  I feel like now that were 33 weeks deep the story has really begun to unfold....

Surfing in the middle of an invasion! Bass & Drum sound good to me; they really anchor (heh) the whole piece.

ahhh!!!

You guys just made my week!!!

smile big_smile thanks!!!!

love it! yeah, mixing kick and bass are always a challenge. But something's got to give! If you can't control them with sidechaining and/or proper EQing, it's often better to search a different sound. Regardless i think you did a great job on this one! Sounds really relentless (in a very positive sense) to me!

BAD! smile

Dang this is one cool gritty driving track!  *air guitar eh nowww!*  Love the sound of the bass synth.  It has a certain NIN-industrialish sound to it.  Nice job!

this is fucking rad
