Hypnotized by flying hippos

Arghh, this week i managed to fall back into that same old rut. On the one hand by loosing myself into tiny little details and wasting too much time on single sounds. And on the other hand by overloading tracks with too much stuff, in worst case resulting in a dull mix. And finally, this is why there was not enough time for composition and mixing/mastering. But that's the deal smile Despite some lengths in there i hope it's enjoyable nonetheless.

Stuff used: Samplr + Nave + Animoog on the iPad, Ableton Live, Maschine. I experimented a lot with sidechaining/gating and on micro-edits on the modulation envelopes in Live.

The devils are in the details! Glad you spent the extra mile with this one!

I like

woooo man, having to face amazement with faving, I call it favoritizement.

Sick track, really refined sound. It is easy to lose time in tiny details but it's never a waste in my opinion.

I didn't find this overloaded at all, the different elements work together very well, this track is very easy to listen to, great job again

dark and dreamy, a winning combination!

The track moves along nice.  Deep.

Very nice. I love the floaty atmosphere and the mix/master sounds quite nice in my headphones. Good job!

very well made, and a great mix. bravo!

Love it. The point about 2/3 way through where the piano-line enters and moves against the rhythm - perfect. Lush mix too!

Man, your "dull mix" puts any of my "best effort mixes" to shame! smile
Would love to hear about your mixing/mastering-process some day, do you give classes? Hehe wink

Haha, honestly i'm feeling like a bloody beginner in mixing/mastering since i started to take this more serious not until beginning of weeklybeats14 smile. I watched maybe 2-3 youtube tutorials and that's all i know. Not enough to give classes big_smile

Hehe, still, I'm damn impressed with the sonic quality you achieve! I've only just begun learning myself as well, but to be honest I feel like I have no idea what I'm doing whenever I try...!

I know what you mean smile. All too often i'm screwing for hours and in the end it sounds worse than before, haha. A solid portion of basic knowledge is helping for sure, but there's always a big portion of trial and error and even luck involved (at least in my case) big_smile

A very nicely composed track with lots of well thought out details. Great work!

yea i dunno bout "dull" mix, I love how that kick just pushes through everything.  That lead delay that fades really opens up the track too.  Images of driving through a tunnel that opens up with bright light smile  (at least thats what i feel).  The break towards the end even cooler, didn't expect that at all.  Really suhweet track. *nods head in time*  (oh crap that filtered i dunno what towards the end! ripped open the track! well done!) (why am i yelling!?)

the last minute or so of this is epic. love it. honestly after that pitch bend at the outro i was really hoping everything would come back in with an epic climax smile maybe next time...

This is just plain groovy

Your sound design was out of this world on this one. smile A pleasure to listen to!

Everything is flowing in this one, the ending is especially superb
