Liquid Rust (w/ jEFFREYs)

By orangedrink on June 5, 2016 7:01 pm

My first collaboration!  I randomly found jEFFREYs here on WeeklyBeats!  I listened to his Week 16 submission, Drunken Grimestep and absolutely loved it.  I left a comment and a few days later he emailed me LSDJ tracks of a new song!  Thanks, WeeklyBeats!

jEFFREYs' files were totally nasty and disgusting (in a good way).  There was a lot going on, so what I tried to do was space out the insanity leading to an exciting noise crescendo.  I felt like the song could use some mellow low end to balance the high pitched disorientation, so I used the OP-1 to create the sound you hear at the beginning of the track.  I felt like it was a perfect match because it had a mellow element, but had the ability to rise to a "fever pitch" which would mimic some of the distortion of jEFFREYs' LSDJ sounds.

I broke up the piece with two extended sections of my OP-1 synth "freaking out" as a way to give the listener a slight break from the hectic noise.  I created the arrangement where the various LSDJ channels would make an appearance gradually, and also added some glitch and warp editing to increase the insanity of jEFFREYs' already crazy drum beat.

To me, the title "Liquid Rust" brings the image of some monstrous robot, coming back to life in a junkyard.  With rusted parts sparking and shuddering, the robot slowly stands up, towering over you.  You have no idea if this is friend or foe.  The robot opens its mouth and vomits, a stream of liquified metal- liquid rust.

...the song ends with the robot losing power and surprisingly collapsing!

Totally agree with the assessment that it's dirty and nasty in a good way.  Lots of glorious grimy noise on display here.  It kind of makes me want to go break something.  smile

Beastly!

Ominous! Great sounds and beats. Can hear the data transmissions leaking out of the robot as it rusts away.

Just the right amount of nasty. Great track!

Doing the robot as I type... Wicked!

Great stuff.  Love the industrial vibe.

A vomiting robot-- that'll keep me up at night. ::)

Cool music, though!
