Soliton

With traveling last weekend (and lots of inspiration) and getting-back-into-things this week (including prep for some other work), I have a simple little piece that grew a bit organically from some beats. Usual percussive suspects (606, K3M, claps) with the added K3M conga drum, because I'm going to live dangerously.  Siney organ and bass in Operator, and a Tension instrument I worked up a few years ago, inspired by the kora.  A bit of beat repeat, simple delay, and filter delay in return channels, and Bob's your auntie's husband.  Not breaking new ground, but not unpleasant to listen to, either.

With such a modest intro, how could it be anything but enjoyable?

Say hi to Bob for me.

Ha!  Thanks for the kind appreciation!

Often in Live I'll input MIDI notes with the computer keyboard, because there it is--it's convenient, nothing else to carry, hook up or enable.  Hey, just putting ideas down.  Tracking is generally not so hot that way, though, so I'll tend to go back and tweak up the timing.  This piece was unusual in that I did a lot less of that than I often do--the organ is pretty elastic with the timing, and the kora really lags. But they felt right leaving them as tracked.

So sparse it sounds downright spacious! Very chill, summer night stuff to me...

really nice...

I liked the subtle panning going on here... I'm digging this spacey, chilled out track, onezero!

I love this. Lots of movement. I love it when the Organ comes in. Kinda reminiscent of the artist "Bonobo" but recorded in space.

Awesome compliments--thanks, everyone!  And great to see you over here, Casey!

The subtle panning is something I've been doing lately for mix variety: auto pan on each percussion channel, with different periods and phases.
