Beach Lab

A tropical little electronica instrumental piece for a cold winter.  (My furnace died last night; I could use the warmth.)  Instrumentation: Ableton Live Electric and Impulse, and real guitar, with a little random input from the Lemur controller.

I started with the Lemur doing an algorithmically-played enigmatic scale, which you hear in the middle and at the end. Around that I added four different Impulse kits, each with samples of a different drum machine: 606, 808, MK1, and the secret weapon of the Kawai K3M.  Bass was a low-octave Electric instrument, and I added a few other Electric melody lines, and adding some guitar.

Nice mood!

loved the guitar work on top of the different percussion details

i really like that guitar tone. nice work!

Thanks!  It's my old Kalamazoo KG-2, played with fingers (didn't bother with a pick), right into the Focusrite interface, and a touch of Ableton compression..  The "lead" lines got a notch filter to scrape out the 60-cycle hum, and then into the Vox-ish Amp processor in Live.

The beat samples are a bit raw for me. I like the mood though. The beats, other percussive elements, the guitars sort of attempts to jam together. But it gets a bit repetitive later.

I real enjoyed the beat, nice contrast for the mood set by the rest of the track.

Nicely done onezero!

This one sounds very tight. Again, I like it. Feels like it was mixed down with different equipment, or by another person. I'm wondering if you did anything differently here than with your other joints? Am I on the right track here or am I reaching for something that isn't there?

I just read you comments about the kalamazoo and focusrite. This is a very good combination One.  -BFT

Good ear.  I was off work for the holidays, and had more time to spend on it.  The guitar is a big difference, and the other pieces have had different sound sources: this one, a bunch of go-to drum machines, the Rhodes sounds, and the Kalamazoo.  Week 2, all in the Ableton Box, week 3, natural sounds and a couple kit synths, and week 4 the Moog.  So I do try to change it up each time.

Now that I know I'll have to give them all another listen next week.

Your grooves are great.  I'm officially a fan.
