Summer Rock Steady

By miraclemiles on August 28, 2016 11:07 pm

Summer's kind of ending. I sat down this week and thought, one more happy little song for the summer season, Tapped a bunch of stuff out on the Push, and here's what I got. Like a lot of my stuff, there's many layers, plenty of drums. Well two drum tracks, and a timbale track. Some piano, rhodes, a sampled korg synth instrument, two bass tracks, some delay flutes. Pulled stuff in until finally had to make myself stop smile
The melody that comes in the beginning I played on very first piano take playing along with drums, chords and one of the basslines. It's a little silly, but immediately got stuck in my head so I resisted the urge to edit it. For the next part took trumpet sample from the converse rubber tracks sample library, chopped it and played these parts, and added the filter. Grabbed the "aaahh" vox samples from same place. Was going to try and record vocals but never got around to doing it properly. I did get myself howling an idea into the laptop mic to capture it (and yelling at my son to "hold on" as he stood at top of basement steps yelling "DAD"), so I couldn't resist keeping it in here in the middle. Time for the Fall and Winter dark minor key beats now? Who knows!

Very upbeat and appealing and lots of layers to dig through as usual.  There's a slight jazzy feel to parts of it as well.  Good stuff.

definitely catches the mood of summer in being upbeat, and lots of really cool quirky sections/instruments throughout!

Thanks so much - love that you got a jazzy impression from it, I love me some jazz.
