Self Aware (8th Birthday)

Spent a lot of time this week getting ready for a live gig with the folks I remixed for last weeks song. At the last minute I found out it wasn't happening because the the conga player / organizer disappeared.. $%&#&* conga players!! 
Anyway, I finally sat down on Saturday afternoon with some new sounds I hadn't played with yet, and was hanging with my son who is celebrating his 8th Birthday this weekend. As usual I wanted to involve him in the music process if I can, so I laid down a beat with one of those new sounds -- the Purple Drums pack from Symple Sounds, inspired by Prince's use of the Linn drum machine in the 80's. I'm enjoying them so far. So the son played the main parts heard in the middle section of song on a Wurlitzer sample instrument, and the horn sounds/pad from an Afro DJ Mac and Symple Sounds Dave Smith Pro 2 sample instrument pack. Then we got to vocals. I told a story about when I turned 8, then his response was so hilarious, we had to use it. Did some tweaking of our voices, then chopped them for another part and added another couple beats on the Pocket Operator sample packs I used on my song from a couple weeks ago. So had some fun and laughs, and hope the boy has a good birthday too.
