One's Small Self

By miraclemiles on August 21, 2016 11:16 pm

Sounds all from the Korg Gadget ipad app, except voice by my father, street name: 2 Sanguine. Exported to Ableton for arranging, a few effects, some reverb, delay, compression, eq, and standard master channel stuff. Was having stressful week at work and didn't find time or energy to sit down for my normal process of creating things on the Push, but pulled the ipad out as I was nearing sleep for a few nights and created these parts, slower than I usually go at 75 bpm reflecting the state of mind. This was my first real dive into the Gadget app, which has some very cool sounds I look forward to playing with more. I have been bugging my dad, who's recently retired, to record some nuggets of wisdom for posterity (and for his son's sample fodder), and this came into my inbox this week. I I need to ask him about this, but when I heard this I believe he's speaking about reaching a heightened or transformed state through meditation-like practices and I thought it could fit with this mellow piece I was cooking. The music has has a somewhat dark undertone, with some moments of light and while reaching a heightened state can be uplifting and light, there can be some darkness to confront and pass through on the journey as your "small self" vanishes.

Simultaneously psychedelic and relaxing.  Cool track.

Awesome trippy effect with the sample. Super cool overdriven beat too.  Nice job!

Instructional manual for operating your mind. Kudos to  2 Sanguine!

Hey man, this is actually really cool!!!
Where did you find the vocal?
I like, in the second half, that distorted synth sound! Really great!

Thanks much! I noted the vocal in the description above - was recording sent to me by my father. I like those second half sounds too, some sounds in there kind of reminded me of Boards of Canada, will have to play around with those more.
