The Tides Of Time

By Martiln on April 30, 2016 7:40 am

Another chill, laid-back piece. Pretty happy with this week's, I love making stuff in this style. Also, got my hands on some Pocket Operators this week, hopefully I'll get a chance to use them in next week's submission.
In the mean time though, hope you guys enjoy this one!

the mix is great, so crisp. I wish I could pull stuff off like this. Great work

Yeah man you nail this vibe every week! Never disappoints. Love the percussion in this one, think that's where you creatively excel.

Thanks Alphaglitch! Yeah I love making the percussion interesting and just varying things in it slightly, I find it gives the track a little bit more life. smile

Exactly! By the way... How do you play Ecco The Dolphin? Weirdest Mega Drive game ever (as my 12 y/o self remembers smile

Excellent track as usual. You could make everything sound crispy and clean

I typically give you production notes, but I want to give you an arrangement note.  In this piece, you did something a little different than what I've heard in some of your other work.  From the 25% to 50% you pretty much had a very long breakdown and build up.  This seemed to be longer than what you've usually done, but it really made the return to the beat very satisfying.  Your beats are usually massive, so spending a lot of time without them helps us 'forget' how sonically rich and full they are.  I really like how this is arranged with a big breakdown early, a new melody section once we return, and then the end 25% of the track being a sort of extended outro.  Very cool.  Maybe try the opposite the next time and make 75% a buildup to a new melody section!  Congrats again on ridiculously awesome work.
