160214 mnm jam

By license on February 14, 2016 10:11 pm

I guess I was going to get into "fuck it" mode sooner or later, so here's an unlistenable Monomachine jam. I do a few of these every week just trying to find cool sounds but I don't usually share it because I don't think anyone wants to listen to it. I started a few actual songs but it was just not happening.

i like it

this is pretty cool ... and i like how you play with the fx smile

I've heard plenty of worse 'finished' tunes. Some nice sections.

Tasty jam, this.  Great use of syncopated filtered delay, and I like how you've played with the sounds, making the piece devolve toward the end. Nice stuff!

Like these sounds.

Loving these rhythms! Gets a little tribal/primal toward the end in such a great way! Keep up the good work!

Nice. Getting a Mouse on Mars vibe from this.

Nice growling noise

Thanks guys smile Sorry for replying so late. I really enjoyed this one myself although it feels a little underdeveloped to me. I'm still trying to figure out how to spend my studio time more effectively and make the most out of the sounds and structures I discover.

tbh I think I like the vibe of this better than your other stuff yikes more raw but has more feeling to my ear...! Really enjoy the tribal aspect, reminds me of something I can't quite put my finger on.

You're not off-base at all. For most of these other submissions, I tried to construct songs, which is something I used to do often and got out of the habit of around the time I got into Elektron gear. For the last few years, most of what I do is just off-the-cuff jams like this. It's a much more intuitive way of working for me. I think a lot of people are alienated by that kind of structure (or lack thereof) but it's more entertaining for me, at least, to just roll with what the machine is telling me to do, to let it flow and change at any minute, even when that usually means there's not a lot to sink one's teeth into in terms of capital-M-Music.

Thanks for listening smile

yeah this is how  I've been most successfully using my MnM so far, too
