Hi there you! I’m Kubbi and welcome to my domain. Now it’s my responsibility to make you stay, therefore can I tempt you with some fresh Norwegian chiptunes? Unfortunately my fresh Norwegian chiptunes aren’t like all those other 8 bit music artists’. See, if there’s one thing I love more than masturbating it’s experimenting with new sounds, odd time signatures and basically fuck things up. Don’t worry, my tracks aren’t completely off the hook, so I certainly hope they’re enjoyable. Instead of using LSDJ for gameboys, all my sounds are made with brilliant plug-ins and homemade samples in Renoise.
My music is based on traditional chiptune music with strong melodies, hard hitting grooves and progressive compositions. My tunes can be separated in to two categories; Independent tracks which are released outside of my albums. These tracks tend to be more on the happy side and might be made in a rush. The second category is my albums which are all based on one or more concepts.
My name is in fact Vegard, and I’m an 18 years old Norwegian student, a freelance composer and bass guitar player. I am not a cat. The past 2 years I’ve been struggling with a serious case of too much free time, therefore I decided “Why not take a break from all the typical band music and relax with some electronic music, like chiptune”. And that’s where the story begins. I was born in Sandnes, the city of rain and sleet. 2009-2012 I studied music at Vagen VGS and I spent 2012-2013 at a music boarding school far from home working on my 4th release Circuithead.
I like long walks on the summits, riding polar bears in my national costume and viking raids. errrrrrr, but usually I just stay in front of my computer.
In 2011 I released my first EP; I dunno lol, which basically was just a compilation of previously released tunes
In early 2012 I then released my second compilation; Transmittance, which is a full length album, but contains nothing but previously released tracks too.
May 1st, 2012 I then released my first actual concept album; Sleet. A 17 track odyssey through a cold, but bouncy chiptune suite.
December 1st, 2012 is when the big one happens. The very day after the release of Sleet I started working intensively on my 4th release; Circuithead.
Thanks to great people, new and old friends I’ve got this far. The Kubbi project started out as a joke and ended up as my full time occupation. Amazing feedback from amazing fans is making my music what it is every day.
From my point of view, once you even care to listen to one of my tracks you are immediately a bigger part of this project than myself.
Thanks for your time and enjoy your stay!
