to a lesser degree

In accordance with my Weekly Retrograde project, this is the sister track to week 24's "Colorblind Machine".

I had originally planned on invoking Colorblind Machine's exact instrumentation in order to bring back the high strung 2x4, but it just didn't work out for this music. The main element that this track has in relation to that is the vocals with no lyrics, although they are used very differently. A tenuous connection perhaps, but it'll have to do.

As I've been fond of telling many people, I am now "two dads", i.e. my wife gave birth to our second child early in the morning on the 12th of this month of July, and I've been a little busy since then. I'm pleasantly surprised that I was able to squeeze in this project, especially the vocal tracking which happened this morning in a rare stretch of double-naptime.

Also: This musical idea is reused from something I left on a decrepit myspace page from waaaaaay back in the day, which you can find here:

This time around I fully notated it, because I found that although I had originally intended to use a repeating cycle of time signatures that did not line up with the harmonic timing, the piece works better if the pattern is purposefully broken in a couple places.

I'm fairly certain that this musical idea will soon find its home as part of a larger work, probably for The Mineral Kingdom.
