Getting Ready

By Jim Wood on July 4, 2014 3:19 pm

Alternating between 4/4, 3/4 and 5/4. Distorted vocals from "Getting Ready Emotionally" (Coronet Films, 1951). Ready for what? Being drafted, of course.

Seemed like an appropriate post for July 4.

oh gosh. those chopped and unnatural vocals are making me think of boards of canada, maybe like telephasic workshop (ok but that slowdown was something they'd never do hehe). good job, i feel very uncomfortable now smile

Yelephasic music? The 3/4 part gives it a eerie feeling... You should do a dance track with the last vocal loop smile

Just played Telephasic Workshop -- I see what you mean. Now I feel uncomfortable smile

Interesting idea; I'll see what I can do (or something similar). Thanks!

I really like that power-down slowdown towards the end, to a seemingly sorta half-tempo speed. nice.

Thanks! That's my favorite part as well.

Loving those chopped vocals! Great rhythmic changes too!

I love the baritone-sax quality of the initial vocal (or is it the vocal quality of the baritone sax?).  Also great effects from the voice chopping--and here's another vote for the slow-down.  Totally digging the rhythmic triplets on the voices after that slowdown, too.  Wonderful, baffling stuff!

Thanks to both! The voice was fed through both an overdrive and a vinyl distortion unit to give it that frenetic quality.

kinda reminds me of matmos

(weird) Jahrmarkt  :-)

I can feel the shrooms kicking in...

Very good use of effective voice sampling once again.  smile

the rhythmic changes really kick ass. Very intriguiing and great inspiration!!!

I love time signature changes.  Well Done!

Wild ride with some beautiful moments on the way. Impressive. Not overloaded, either!

Great stuff, the time signature changes and the voice work really make this track stand out!

Appreciate the comments. Thank you!

Just gotta agree with everyone else.  The vocal samples rule as usual, and the tempo changes throughout are right on.

This is a really interesting piece of work, unexpectedly flows really well with all the changes.

love the way you used the sample and the rhythm changes throughout.  Nice job!

Considering the quality (qualities?) of your work, high praise indeed. Thanks!

Tastefully utilized time signatures and half time. Enjoyed this!

This is ambitious and awesome. I'm lovin' your work.
