SofaNova

Was asked to make a track in this style, so I did. I liked how it turned out, but I found I hate working with record samples.

So charming! I feel like I should be in a tiki bar in The Jetsons or something, hah.

A space tiki bar would be pretty sweet...

Ah, now we have a new music genre: SofaNova. Clever use of the source material(s). Cover Art is perfect.

I don't think I invented it, but thanks! Not so much clever use of samples as just grueling trial and error brute force until something worked.

Oh, like Leonard Nimoy's singing?

A long time ago I was making a lot of chilled out music about ghostly space turtles. So the name was originally Intergalapaghost. One of my friends at Kracfive Records got tired of typing it out, so he shortened it to IpaGhost and it just kinda stuck. Over time most people just call me ipa (eye-pa). So it really doesn't mean anything, although there are plenty of great I.P.A.s out there, so pick your favorite. Now I wish I put Intergalapaghost on the album art because it would have been very fitting for the era.

this is great!! yeah record samples are a huge chore to deal with sometimes sad definitely worth it in the end though

Nice and easy. Brilliant sampling. My favorite is Donald Duck in here. Makes me cry.

Yeah no kidding, went through over 60 alubms, 1k tracks, cut 200 samples, and most of those samples didn't even get used. I have a real respect for serious crate diggers.

Haha, that sample makes me laugh every time! But, it's actually not Donald Duck! Just a bad attempt at recreating the sounds of wildlife found on a Martin Denny album from 1959 Quiet Village - The Exotic Sounds Of Martin Denny.

Oh sorry for that mistake. Good to know.

I think it's safe to assume that they were doing their best Donald impersonation since he was around for quite a while by that time!

Very groovy in sort of a retro futuristic way.

It was a very catch surf theme! Until Fall Out Boy sampled it...

This is great!

Didn't think I did, but after looking them up, turns out I used to listen to them quite a bit in college! lol
