RoboJerk

By Ipaghost on September 21, 2014 11:58 pm

This song was started on the 8th week, but I brought it back as something totally different. It originally had a talk box, hence the name RoboJerk, but I ended up scrapping it.

Whoa, that's what I call a kick drum! Sidechain lush smile

I really enjoyed your take on the chill-wave sound, if I may call this track so... That 808 cowbell retriggered and played chromatically... Are you listening to some Future Sound Of London lately? wink

Inspiring and dope as usual. I wish I had more time (yes, my track is finally online but... Nothing nearly half as good as this)

Downloaded and faved smile

Yeah, I've definitely been on a chill wave kick this year now that I've been collecting a few techniques here and there. It's been a few months since I've listened to FSoL, but it is embedded into my brain forever. I first used the cowbell in We Will Carry On, which was totally inspired by FSoL. It sounds so good in everything, I have to resist over using it! Probably one of my top 10 favorite sounds! The drums are pitched down, which I learned from dissecting Washed Out's Feel It All Around which is really just a pitched down sample from Gary Low's I Want You. You can hear my take on this sound in Sugar High, where I recreated the whole song as closely as possible, then used the same setup for my own melody. Totally a great way to learn new tricks!

I thought that was the latest dance craze.

Propulsive yet mellow. Love the side-chain compression.

FSoL is the abrieviation for Future Sound of London. The track Laguna is referring to is

If you haven't heard of them, I recommend it. It's all pretty classic 90's electronic music.
Here is another fave song which was featured in Wipeout 2097, with a great video by Run Wrake:

I think you are referring to Chill Wave, which is really what the name sounds like; a lush wave of chillness! =P

Oh yeah! This hits the spot : ) Awesome!!
