Paper Planes

By Ipaghost on May 25, 2014 11:30 pm

Started off making this song using a piece of paper for all the samples. It needed something extra so I added a few synths and beats, and then made the airplane in the gif. Wanted to make something relaxing today, so didn't stress out too much on the song progression.

I love it. The sample of the paper being modulated and stuff is just cool.

Subtle use of the paper samples, great overall piece. Now, if you could get M.I.A. for some vocals...

Yes, the paper sample works a treat.  Cool beats too.  Love the spazzy kick bursts.

Thanks! The crumpled paper sound was a loop that I split into two channels panned left and right with a high pass on one and a low pass on the other. It created some interesting spacial effects!

Hah! yeah! I thought about singing on this from the beginning, but I just don't have what it takes. Singing apparently is my kryptonite. =[

Thanks! Field recording is a great/easy way to get texture into songs!

oh man, how a love such wonderful use of field recordings!!! Of course the synths make a wonderful contribution, too. Fav!

not to forget the wonderful gif! :-)

Thanks! It was fun making the samples, one of the high "synth" sounds is actually me using the paper as a reed whistle. (Take a piece of paper, and pull tight with one inch between your fingers and blow perpendicular to the paper and you get a really loud squeak! The gif was a lot of fun, but I realized only afterward that I could have made the same thing on the computer in a fraction of the time... oh well! I should make some environment maps of my apt!

Omg I want to build that!
And the second gif is giving me flashbacks of Buck Rogers: Planet of zoom for Coleco Adam

Loving the glitches and the entire vibe here....

Nice use of those samples! I really dig the beat too. Well done!

Thanks guys!

oh man this is nice. relaxing, and that paper sample is pretty cool too! loving the glitched out drum patterns as well. this all comes together so perfectly!

Great track and visuals, love the idea of using the field recordings, might try something similar for the next week

again..great sounds, great mix, love those kick-rolls! but I was kind of waiting for that "clash"-sample:)

Sample manipulation on this level is still far beyond my skill set. Bravo man! Seriously.

Very low stress! Lovin it per usual

I work for the FAA, and I approve this (unofficially, of course... I'm not allowed to actually speak for the FAA).

Well, this is an unofficial thanks!

wow love the beat throughout this track, especially towards the end as everything folds in on itself.  Awesome & creative use of that paper!  It really added cool effects to the track especially the lopass hipass one you talked about.  Nice work! smile

this is lovely. great melodies and beats. excellent GIF too!

great!
