Lost Hour

Here's quick follow-up to last week's jam! Way more distortion this time around. Getting a lot closer to the Crystal Method-esque sound I've always wanted to nail. Distorted bass is super hard to mix and work with, but I think I'm getting better...

cool stuff

That sound! So many good memories! ... You nailed the drum parts. And I agree... It's quite easy to end with a totally muddy mix

I personally used to split that kind of "bass" into bass/mid/high frequencies, by bouncing the original to audio or using the chain of parametric EQ of your taste. Duck the bass part, and gate the mediums according to the drum/snare.

There are some nice dubstep tutorials that deal with heavy basses, although they don't achieve the Method sound smile

Get busy child. There is hope!

Love this...I could listen to this for hours.

The groove is great! Nice sounds. Great track!

Thanks for the kind words guys and for the tips Laguna! I took your advice and split the bands for next week's track (week 11). The bass is way clearer. big_smile I'm going to have to go back and remaster Lost Hour and Exhibitry now!
