Sidesplitter - lowered into liquid gold

By george bowles on July 13, 2014 7:31 am

i used an android app that converts a sound into midi notes. i just did some humming before i went to sleep. supposedly this app only does major scales, but anyway, I figured that a bedtime lullaby would be good use of it if that is the case. i rendered the midi notes in Reaper using some midi instruments and other vst fx. then i put that into fl studio and did some weird beats using a Visco space drum sample for the bass. my main concern is how the snare sounds... i think i like it but am on the fence, sounds kinda weird. i might edit that part down, but if the snare drum sounds cool then i probably won't edit. anyway, i'm pretty happy about how this turned out. such layers, many sounds.

Pretty cool. Seems like there's some great fodder for future development though. The app sounds kinda nifty.

In fact, it really does develop quite nicely over its length.

thank you! i ended up editing out the 2/3 point where the melody drops out and there's just that beat... i felt like that part was unnecessary. now it just drops out for a bit then rises in key by a half step but with different timbre/texture.

Awesome. I have no sense for harmony or modulation of harmony, so I'll take your word for it!

Little Nemo dreamscape -- works really well -- except IMO the snare. Kind of takes over.

Very cool stuff here! What android app did you use?

This is really gorgeous.  I love the way it suspends time, drifting toward the beat.  It's like being in a balloon above Neptune or something.

right on, maybe i'll try a different mix. i did want it to be a massive snare, but i think your right it is at least a little too loud.

thank you! I thought so too, I still get mesmerized by the melody. heard it right when i woke up after working on this all night. the app is called Automatic Music Dictation. i've heard it messes up a lot and possibly has the limitation of only doing major scale melodies. not sure if it is true but it at least sounded close to the original melody. i'm all about experimenting with different methods and processes.

and thank you too! yeah it is at once uplifting and suspenseful, methinks. I like the balloon above Neptune idea big_smile my fav part is the little details amongst the layers of sounds.

Elements of this track sound like they’re about to rip the whole thing apart! I love the way it feels on the edge of chaos at all times but manages to just keep in check.

awesome! that's pretty much how i feel about it too.

title really fits! its waving, moving and shining! nice one!
ps. sorry for the empty comment... my finger unexpectedly moved touching the pad while the snare part was punching!
