just because

Well, we're in the new house. I didn't have much unpacked this week but found myself noodling with this Maschine project. I ended up with a minimal vocal track and a fairly tight beat I think. Maschine 2 and Ableton 9, Apogee One.

"so we're working on the fields
just because the field is out there
and we're writing songs because
they come to mind... mind."

In case anybody remembers this, I had some reminiscence of Depeche Mode's A Broken Frame here.

Love that almost subliminal beginning.Nice subdued vocals as well.

This is beautiful. I can hear the Depeche Mode, mostly in your voice though.

nice song! I don't like the drums so much, especially how the hihat sits a bit too loud in the mix. could be a little softer. otherwise, great work!

great song! I have to agree, the drums sound pretty tight (like dreikelvin mentioned the highs could be a tiny bit softer). Very nice vocals, although i could imagine them a bit more in the foreground. Do it!

I thought I commented on this on Sunday.  I must have forgotten to hit "Submit Comment."  Anway, I remember saying how the whole song was enjoyable (definitely a Depeche Mode vibe), but your vocals blow me away.   Very nice.

Great arrangement, fine vocal.  Awesome track, totally wish this was longer.

Thank you all! I am frankly surprised that the voice went over so well. I had the Apogee One on the floor and had to sing really softly because wife was sleeping in same room. But hey! Glad you liked it! I will try to crank up the vocals next time!

Hmmm... the first (80s) HH or the second (breakbeaty) one? I thought it was OK... but you know what, I appreciate the constructive criticism. My mixes are typically, well, bad, so that is definitely something I should work on. Thanks!

OK *that* I can see! Thanks!!

My 2 cents:

I really enjoyed the drum tracks AS IS, but with some headphones without much low end presence, they do sounds louder (basically because the richness of the bass gets somehow lost).

Definitely feeling some Depeche Mode presence, maybe in the cool and quiet vocal delivery and the whole dark synth pop feel.

A really good track, man. Should publish a remix with extended beats at the end (maybe some Colorful Grey dj tools?)

I join the depeche mode feel as well, love the drums and how they set the pace for the track.  Nice job!
