Shield the Spotlight of the Mind

Expression is the core of soul, but the soul is shielded from the prying minds of others.

Fri, Oct 7, 20:55 - 22:35. I want to explore a little bit of ambient noise this week.

A few notes on this track.

1. Yes, it’s pretty much noise. Some people like this kind of stuff. Many people don’t.

When mixing, I wanted to keep the levels reasonably low, hence it’s kind of quiet. I wanted a decent spread of frequencies also.

2. I actually don’t often like pure noise, personally. That’s why I actually add notes, so that there’s some kind of backing tonal progression, even if the atonal noise is the lead part, so to speak. It’s kind of an odd juxtaposition, but it leads also to a nice eerie feeling.

3. This is mostly hardware, but recorded one instrument at a time. I didn’t do it all live.

Instruments used:

Bells: Nord Lead 2x
Noise: Mono Evolver
Drone: Nord Lead 2x
Pads: Andromeda A6
Bass: An electric bass
Accents: An electric guitar

There are a handful of software effects on these instruments that I added after recording.

Total time:  1h 40m.
