randomjazzmashing

By A Thorny Succulent on June 1, 2014 10:14 pm

I had a few tracks completed this week (up to 40/100 woohoo!), and I decided to upload this one since it represents some stuff I've been messing with lately.

The "main" instrument (the first one you hear) was 90% random button mashing. I've been experimenting with a technique that involves me pressing random number keys or select groups of numbers on the keyboard while spamming the arrow keys when writing in Guitar Pro 5. This results in somewhat random chord progressions that have a neat jazzy feel to them.

Often it ends up sounding like a jumbled mess, but this time I was pleasantly surprised with how pretty it ended up sounding in certain spots. Currently I'm trying to find that "sweet spot" where I'm still pressing keys somewhat randomly but also keeping a basic idea of where I want to go with the music.

Oh yeah and this was written in 4/4 which is not very common for me but it just came out that way and I didn't want to force it into anything different.

Full of dissonant energy!  Excellent. And you could have fooled me about the 4/4.
